Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 37, but this was rejected by Amiet, 1972, Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 9. The subspecies Cardioglossa nigromaculata inornata Laurent, 1951, is probably a distinct species according to J.-L. Amiet in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 17.
