Gastrotheca monticola Barbour and Noble, 1920, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 63: 426. Holotype: MCZ 5290, by original designation. Type locality: "Huancabamba, [Departamento Piura,] northwestern Peru".

Gastrotheca marsupiata lojana Parker, 1932, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 10, 9: 25. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.31.13 (formerly 1930.10.12.6) according to Condit, 1964, J. Ohio Herpetol. Soc., 4: 87. Type locality: "Loja, [Provincia Loja,] S. Ecuador". Synonymy by Duellman and Hillis, 1987, Herpetologica, 43: 158.

Distribution

Andean slopes in the Huancabamba Depression region of southern Ecuador and northern Peru, 1900-3130 m elevation.

In the Gastrotheca plumbea group of Duellman, Maxson, and Jesiolowski, 1988, Copeia, 1988: 527-543. Almendáriz and Orcés, 2004, Politécnica, Quito, 25: 114-15, provided distributional data for Ecuador.
