Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 525: 1-19. Confused with Gastrotheca megacephala prior to the naming of the latter. Mendes, Ruas, Lourenço-de-Moraes, Rödder, and Solé, 2012, Zootaxa, 3312: 62-64, reported on advertisement call and range, suggesting sympatry with Gastrotheca megacephala in coastal Bahia, Brazil.
