Distribution

Patchily distributed on Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic), 0-900 m, elevation.

Comment

In the Eleutherodactylus inoptatus group, according to Schwartz, 1965, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 132: 479-508, who recognized four subspecies, now considered species (including Eleutherodactylus aporostegus, Eleutherodactylus bothroboans, Eleutherodactylus ruthae tychaethrous. Powell, 1993, Herpetol. Rev., 24: 135-137, suggested that Eleutherodactylus ruthae aporostegus and Eleutherodactylus ruthae tychaethrous warranted binominal status. In the more exclusive Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) auriculatus section, Eleutherodactylus ruthae group of Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 329.
