Syntypes: MNHNP and RMNH 1736 (according to Gassó Miracle, van den Hoek Ostende, and Arntzen, 2007, Zootaxa, 1482: 37), by original designation; MNHNP 747 designated lectotype by Zweifel, 1967, Copeia, 1967: 119. Type locality: "Nova Guinea". Suggested to be a junior synonym of Platymantis corrugatus (as Cornufer rugata) by Van Kampen, 1923, Amph. Indo-Austral. Arch.: 241. Synonymy with Eleutherodactylus inoptatus by Zweifel, 1967, Copeia, 1967: 117-120. Lynch, 1996, in Powell and Henderson (eds.), Contr. W. Indian Herpetol.: 142, suggested that the correct synonymy is with Eleutherodactylus nortoni. Suppressed for purposes of synonymy and homonymy by Opinion 1104, Anonymous, 1978, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 34: 222-223.
Hyla cornuta Tschudi, 1838, Classif. Batr.: 71. Label name for MNHNP syntypes provided as an objective synonym in description of Cornufer unicolor Tschudi, 1838.
Hyla cornuta Duméril and Bibron, 1841, Erp. Gen., 8: 617. Substitute name for Cornufer unicolor.
Halophila dorsualis Girard, 1858, U.S. Explor. Exped. 1838-1842, 20: 58. Holotype: Presumably deposited in the USNM but apparently now lost. Type locality: "Feejee Islands", presumably in error. Possibly based on specimens of Cornufer unicolor according to Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 107.

Distribution
The Massif de la Hotte and the Massif de la Selle in Haiti, east to the southern slopes of the latter range in the Dominican Republic and from the southern slopes of the Sierra de Baoruco north of Cabo Rojo, 576-1515 m elevation.
