Batrachyla longipes Baird, 1859, Rep. U.S-Mex. Bound. Surv., 2(Pt. 2-Rept.): 35. Holotype: USNM 3237; now lost, according to Kellogg, 1932, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 160: 107; see discussion by Barbour, 1923, Proc. New England Zool. Club, 8: 81-83. Type locality: "Mexico"; considered to be 40 leagues [about 120 miles, according to Barbour, 1923, Proc. New England Zool. Club, 8: 81] north of Mexico City by Cope, 1887, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 32: 16; see Kellogg, 1932, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 160: 107, for discussion.

Syrrhophus latodactylus Taylor, 1940 "1939", Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 26: 397. Holotype: EHT-HMS 6807, by original designation; now FMNH 100063 according to according to Marx, 1976, Fieldiana, Zool., 69: 66. Type locality: "Huasteca Cañon, about 15 km. west of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, elevation about 680 meters". Synonymy by Lynch, 1970, Univ. Kansas Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 20: 30. Opinion 1024, Anonymous, 1974, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 31: 130-132, stated that Syrrhophus latodactylus is not to be used in preference of Batrachyla longipes when considered synonyms.

Distribution

Moderate elevations (650-2000 m) along the Sierra Madre Oriental in pine-oak woodland from central Nuevo León through San Luis Potosí to northern Hidalgo, Mexico.
