Eleutherodactylus intermedius Cochran, 1941, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 177: 70. Holotype: USNM 107566, by original designation. Type locality: "Loma Rucilla of the Cordillera Central, [Santiago Province,] Dominican Republic, 8000-10,000 feet altitude". Preoccupied by Eleutherodactylus intermedius Barbour and Shreve, 1937.

Reviewed by Schwartz, 1983, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 335: 1-2, who noted that this nominal species may be composed of three cryptic species. In the Eleutherodactylus auriculatus section, Eleutherodactylus montanus series, unassigned to species group, according to Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 328. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) abbotti series, Eleutherodactylus abbotti group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 225.
