In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) marnocki group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 225. Considered a synonym of Syrrhophus marnocki by Milstead, Mecham, and McClintock, 1950, Texas J. Sci., 2: 543-562, and Morafka, 1977, Biogeographica, Hague, 9: 69; this synonymy has not been generally accepted, although no one has disputed Morafka's contention of having collected intermediate specimens in the Sierra de Agava east of Monclova, Nuevo León, Mexico. Bryson and Mueller, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 229, reported the species for the Davis Mountains, Texas, USA.
