In the Eleutherodactylus gossei group according to Goin, 1954, Ann. Carnegie Mus., 33: 186; Crombie, 1977, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 90: 194-204. Schwartz and Fowler, 1973, Stud. Fauna Curaçao and other Caribb. Is., 43: 91-99, recognized two subspecies. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) luteolus series, Eleutherodactylus gossei group according to Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 321. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) gossei group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 225. Lever, 2003, Naturalized Rept. Amph. World: 191, discussed an introduced population on Bermuda which is reported to have died out in 1990. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) luteolus species series, Eleutherodactylus luteolus species group, Eleutherodactylus gossei species subgroup of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 71-72.
