In the Eleutherodactylus gossei group according to Goin, 1954, Ann. Carnegie Mus., 33: 186; Crombie, 1977, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 90: 194-204. Schwartz and Fowler, 1973, Stud. Fauna Curaçao and other Caribb. Is., 43: 91-99, recognized two subspecies. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) luteolus series, Eleutherodactylus gossei group according to Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 321. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) gossei group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 225. Lever, 2003, Naturalized Rept. Amph. World: 191, discussed an introduced population on Bermuda which is reported to have died out in 1990.
