Eleutherodactylus cochranae Grant, 1932, J. Dept. Agr. Puerto Rico, 16: 325. Holotype: Peters, 1952, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 539: 13, considered the holotype to be an unidentifiable one of 106 specimens under the lot number UMMZ 73477; Kluge, 1983, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 166: 32, argued that the recatalogued specimen, UMMZ 172576, is the holotype. MCZ 18603-21 regarded (in error) as syntypes by Barbour and Loveridge, 1946, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 96: 105. Type locality: "St. John Island", U.S. Virgin Islands; the UMMZ types all bear the datum "Hassel I., nr. St. Thomas".

Eleutherodactylus ramosi Rivero, 1959, Breviora, 103: 2. Holotype: MCZ 30428, by original designation. Type locality: "Cambalache Forests, n. Puerto Rico". Synonymy by Joglar and Rivero, 1986, Caribb. J. Sci., 22: 123.

Distribution

The Puerto Rico Bank; scattered localities in Puerto Rico as well as the islands of Vieques, Culebra, Hassel, Bovoni Cay near St. Thomas, St. John, and Tortola, 0-1100 ft. elev.

Comment

In the Eleutherodactylus auriculatus group, according to Schwartz, 1969, Stud. Fauna Curaçao and other Caribb. Is., 30: 108. Rivero, 1963, Caribb. J. Sci., 3: 81-85, discussed relationships with Eleutherodactylus locustus and distribution of species in Puerto Rico. See comment under Eleutherodactylus ramosi. In the Eleutherodactylus auriculatus section, Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series, unassigned to species group, according to Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 327.
