Eleutherodactylus tigrillo Savage, 1997, Amphibia-Reptilia, 18: 241. Holotype: CRE 7177A, by original designation; now in LACM. Type locality: "Alto Lari at the confluence of the Río Lari and Río Dipari, about 21 km SW Amubri, Distrito Bratsi, Cantón de Talama[n]ca, Provincia de Limón, Costa Rica, (440 m)".

In the Eleutherodactylus diastema group, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus series, according to the original publication. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 274, provided an account and placed this species in his Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus diastema group. Transferred to Diasporus by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 47.
