Type locality: "COLOMBIA, Departamento de Caldas, Muncipio Norcasia (formerly part of Samaná), at campamento La Miel II, near Junction of quebrada Tasajos with Rio La Miel, Km 23 carretera La Victoria—Samaná, 700 m".

In the Eleutherodactylus diastema group according to the original publication. Transferred to Diasporus by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 47, on the basis of molecular data. Duarte-Cubides and Cala-Rosas, 2012, Check List, 8: 300-301, provided records from Antioquia and Santander, Colombia, and commented on the range.
