Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 39; 1948.132 designated lectotype by Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 44. Type localities: "Chapa", "Fan-Si-Pan", and "Tam-Dao", Vietnam. Restricted type locality (of lectotype) not noted by Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 44, but presumably "Chapa".

Removed from the synonymy of Quasipaa boulengeri (as Paa) by Inger, Orlov, and Darevsky, 1999, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S.,, 92: 23, where it had been placed by Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 44. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 25, provided specific localities for Vietnam and (p. 149) a photograph. Hu, Chen, and Dong, 2005, Sichuan J. Zool., 24: 340-341, documented the presence of this species in Yunnan, China.
