Mountains (1060 m) of southwestern Zhejiang and adjacent Fujian, China, above 800 m elevation.

Related to Rana spinosa according to original publication. Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 208-209, provided a brief account, map, and figure. Huang, 1990, Fauna Zhejiang, Amph. Rept.: 60-61, provided an account. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Paa jiulongensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 490. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1371-1375, provided an account (as Paa jiulongensis), figures, and map, and included this species in their Paa spinosa group.
