Himalayan front of India and Pakistan from Kashmir, Himanchal Pradesh to Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Kashmir.

Discussed by Dubois, 1980 "1978", C. R. Séances Soc. Biogeogr., 55: 167-169. See comment under Nanorana pleskei. Removed from the synonymy of Rana blanfordii, by Annandale, 1909, Rec. Indian Mus., 3: 282, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1905, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 16: 640. Annandale, in the same paper considered Rana vicina to be a synonym of Rana liebigii (following Boulenger, 1890, Fauna Brit. India, Rept. Batr.: 445, who suggested this as a possibly synonymy). Removed from the synonymy of Rana assamensis by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 85, where it had been placed by Annandale, 1917, Mem. Asiat. Soc. Bengal, 6: 137. Chanda, 2002, Handb. Indian Amph.: 142, provided a brief account (as Rana vicina). Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 140-141, provided range, systematic comments, and partial taxonomic bibliography. Khan, 2006, Amph. Rept. Pakistan: 65-66, provided an account for Pakistan. Mehta, 2005, in Alfred (ed.), Fauna W. Himalaya, Part 2: 270, reported the species in Himanchal Pradesh, India, without noting specific localities.
