Arthroleptis bivittatus Müller, 1885, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 7: 671. Holotype: Not specifically designated beyond being in NHMB; NHMB 1257 according to Forcart, 1946, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 57: 123. Type locality: "Tumbo-Insel"; considered to be an island in Sierra Leone by Forcart, 1946, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 57: 118-142, but noted by Perret, 1991, Bull. Soc. Neuchatel. Sci. Nat., 114: 72, as "île Tumbo du groupe Los au large de Conakry, Guinea". D. Blackburn (pers. comm. 14 May 2009: "the original site of Conakry is on Tumbo Island, but it has since spread to occupy the adjacent Kaloum peninsula to which it is connected by a causeway. So, the type locality actually is the old part of Conakry."

Distribution

Known only from the type locality (Tumbo I., Los Group, Guinea).

Comment

Formerly considered a synonym of Arthroleptis poecilonotus by Boulenger, 1900, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1900: 441, and Boulenger, 1906, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 17: 317-323. Perret, 1991, Bull. Soc. Neuchatel. Sci. Nat., 114: 71-76, discussed this species, its distinctness from Schoutedenella taeniatus Boulenger, and its possible relationship to Arthroleptis poecilonotus Peters. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99-172, summarized the literature.
