Confused with Limnonectes kohchangae until recognized as a distinct species by Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 471. Orlov, Murphy, Ananjeva, Ryabov, and Ho, 2002, Russ. J. Herpetol., 9: 87, stated the species (as Limnonectes kohchangae) to occur in Cambodia and southern Vietnam. Reported for southwestern Cambodia by Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 465-481. Nutphund, 2001, Amph. Thailand: 127, provided a brief characterization (as Limnonectes kohchangae) and photograph, which Ohler, 2003, Alytes, 21: 101, noted was of a specimen of Rana glandulosa. Stuart, Sok, and Neang, 2006, Raffles Bull. Zool., 54: 138-139, provided a record for Cambodia. Bain, Nguyen, and Doan, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 109, provided records from Thua Thien-Hue and Lam Dong Provinces, Vietnam.
