Rana namiyei Stejneger, 1901, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 14: 190. Holotype: TIU 31, lost according to Maeda and Matsui, 1990, Frogs Toads Japan, Ed. 2: 115. Type locality: "Okinawa Shima, Riu Kiu Archipelago", Japan.

Northern half of Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Islands, Japan.

In the Limnonectes (Limnonectes) kuhlii group of Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 63, who removed it from the synonymy of Rana kuhlii, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 62. See Stejneger, 1907, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 58: 136-139; Inger, 1947, Fieldiana, Zool., 32: 329; and Okada, 1966, Fauna Japon., Anura: 126-130, for accounts.
