Comment

See comment under Limnonectes microtympanum and Limnonectes magnus. See accounts by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 46, and Menzies, 1987, Aust. J. Zool., 35: 373-418 (who suggested that the Sulwesi and Ceram populations might represent different taxa). In the Limnonectes (Limnonectes) grunniens group of Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 63. Koch, Arida, Riyanto, and Böhme, 2009, Bonn. Zool. Beitr., 56: 107-129, reported a similar population (as Limnonectes cf modestus) from the Talaud Islands, Indonesia. McLeod, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 56: 991-1000, suggested that nominal Limnonectes modestus is composed of a complex of species. Wanger, Motzke, Saleh, and Iskandar, 2011, Salamandra, 47: 17-29, reported the species from central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
