Type locality: "forests of Penang hill", Malaysia; given as "higher forests (about 1000 feet above sea level) in the island of Penang", Malaysia, by Stoliczka, 1870, J. Asiat. Soc. Bengal, 39: 148 (who also described the species as new).

Southern peninsular Myanmar, peninsular Thailand south through West Malaysia; records for Andamans require confirmation.

Reported (as Taylorana hascheana) for Pulau Langkawi, Kadeh, northwestern West Malaysia, by Grismer, Youmans, Wood, Ponce, Wright, Jones, Johnson, Sanders, Gower, Yaakob, and Lim, 2006, Hamadryad, 30: 61-74. Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 166, stated the species to occur in the Andamans (without a specific locality) and provided a partial taxonomic bibliography. Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Gururaja, and Bhatta, 2009, Rec. Zool. Surv. India, Occas. Pap., 302: 26, regarded the species as occurring in the Andamans. Inger and Stuart, 2010, Curr. Herpetol., 29: 51-68, reported on the systematics of this species and the closely related Limnonectes limborgi and redelimited the ranges of both, thereby rendering doubtful identifications in a considerable amount of previous literature.
