Colostethus pinguis Rivero and Granados-Díaz, 1990 "1989", Caribb. J. Sci., 25: 148. Holotype: ICN 20006, by original designation. Type locality: "Malvasa, 2995 m, Valle de Paletará, Municipio de Totoró, vertiente occidental Cordillera Central, Departamento del Cauca, Colombia."
