Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Asterophrys by Zweifel, 1972, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 148: 449, where it had been placed by Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 58. Günther, 2001, Russ. J. Herpetol., 8: 81-104, provided cogent accounts and comparisons. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 247-252, discussed systematic issues within Hylophorbus and provided brief accounts. Köhler and Günther, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 47: 353-365, suggested on the basis of molecular evidence that Hylophorbus is monophyletic and the sister taxon of a group of "Callulops" including Callulops major.
