Suggested to be diagnosed solely on characteristics plesiomophric for Megophryini by Delorme, Dubois, Grosjean, and Ohler, 2006, Alytes, 24: 15, ipso facto the suggested sister taxon of Brachytarsophrys + Megophrys. See comment under Megophryidae. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, did not address this taxon.
