Comment

Although species groups have not been defined for all species, Cannatella, 1982, Copeia, 1982: 501-513, discussed and defined the Phyllomedusa perinesos group. Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 117-118, defined four species groups (noted in the species records), but left several species unassigned. Caramaschi, 2006, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 64: 159-179, discussed and delimited the Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis group. Barrio-Amorós, 2006, Zootaxa, 1309: 55-68, formalized the Phyllomedusa tarsius group, previous recognized informally by De la Riva, 1999, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 13: 123-131. Paiva, Nascimento, Silva, Bernarde, and Ananias, 2010, Ital. J. Zool., 77: 116-121, reported on karyological variation within Phyllomedusa. Brunes, Sequeira, Haddad, and Alexandrino, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 57: 1120-1133, reported on the molecular phylogenetics of the Phyllomedusa burmeisteri group.
