Phyzelaphryne Heyer, 1977, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 31: 152. Type species: Phyzelaphryne miriamae Heyer, 1977, by original designation.

English Names

Miriam's Frogs (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 83).

Distribution

Southern Amazon basin in drainage of Madeira and Tapajos rivers, Brazil, possibly into adjacent Bolivia.

Comment

Considered a synonym of Eleutherodactylus by Lynch, 1980, Am. Mus. Novit., 2696: 1-24, and Lynch and Lescure, 1980, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Sect. A, Zool., 2: 311. The genus was resurrected by Hoogmoed and Lescure, 1984, Zool. Meded., Leiden, 58: 85. See comment under Phyzelaphryne miriamae. See comment under Adelophryne and Phyzelaphryninae.
