Comment

Dubois, 1981, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Suppl., 15: 234, regarded this taxon as closely related to Amolops and Asian members of the subgenus Hylarana of Rana. Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 139, considered Staurois to be the sister taxon of remaining ranids. This placement was corroborated by Bossuyt, Brown, Hillis, Cannatella, and Milinkovitch, 2006, Syst. Biol., 55: 579-594, and Wiens, Sukumaran, Pyron, and Brown, 2009, Evolution, 63: 1217-1231. See comment under Amolops. Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 245-255, provided synonymies and reviews for the Bornean species, and redefined the genus. Arifin, Iskandar, Bickford, Brown, Meier, and Kutty, 2011, Zootaxa, 2744: 39-52, provided a study of phylogenetics and revised the species. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their study of Genbank sequences confirmed the placement of Staurois as the sister taxon of remaining ranids.
