Comment

Partitioned from Phrynopus on phylogenetic grounds by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 99, from which it is geographically separated by the Rio Apurimac valley according to Lehr and Catenazzi, 2009, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 4: 125-138, who mapped the type localities of the species know in August, 2009. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their study of Genbank sequences, suggested that Bryophryne is the sister taxon of Holoaden.
