Comment

See Nussbaum and Pfrender, 1998, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 187: 1-32, for accounts and revision. Wilkinson and Nussbaum, 2006, In Exbrayat (ed.), Reprod. Biol. Phylog. Gymnophiona: 39-78 [49, 68-69], diagnosed the taxon and suggested a relationship with Dermophis and Gymnopis, a suggestion consistent with the molecular results of Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 113. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583 (see comment in Amphibia record) on the basis of molecular evidence confirmed the sister-taxon relationship of Schistometopum witth Dermophis + Gymnopis.
