Oscaecilia Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 598. Type species: Caecilia ochrocephala Cope, 1866, by original designation.
South American Caecilians (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 24).
Costa Rica, Panama, and northern South America; possibly southern Brazil.
Lahanas and Savage, 1992, Copeia, 1992: 703-708, supplied a key to the species. See comment under Caecilia. Wilkinson and Nussbaum, 2006, In Exbrayat (ed.), Reprod. Biol. Phylog. Gymnophiona: 39-78 [67-68], diagnosed the taxon. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583 (see comment in Amphibia record) on the basis of molecular evidence suggested that Oscaecilia is imbedded within a paraphyletic Caecilia.
