The sister taxon of Polypedates according to the original publication. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, suggested that Ghatixalus is the sister taxon of a taxon composed of Chiromantis, Feihyla, Taruga [which they considered part of Polypedates], Polypedates, and Rhacophorus.
