Enamel Microstructure at the ICVM 6 - 2001Dear colleagues, The number of people interested in tooth enamel microstructure is increasing rapidly due to the fact that the various methods of investigation have provided significant aspects of functional morphology, systematics, phylogeny and evolution. Moreover, the enamel structures often have a very high aesthetic appeal. (I have to confess this unexpected beauty was a strong motivation when I started to decipher the enamel of arvicolid molars, long, long ago.) Now I have been asked to explore the general interest in a symposium on tooth enamel microstructure at the International Congress of Vertebrate Morphology ICVM 6 to be held in Jena (Germany) on 21-26 July 2001 The correct web page is: http://www.zoo.uni-jena.de/~starck/icvm-6.htm This would be a good opportunity to continue discussion in the field and to present this promising aspect of vertebrate morphology to a wider audience. May I ask you, to indicate you possible interest in such a symposium at the ICVM 6 to me (koenigswald@uni-bonn.de). By September 1999, I should have your information in order to propose the symposium to the Congress board. Please indicate your possible intention to participate in the ICVM 6 congress directly to the organizers (icvm6@pan.zoo.uni-jena.de). Have you already visited the ‘enamel home page' just created at the American Museum of Natural History in New York (http://research.amnh.org/vertpaleo/enamel/index.html)? A preliminary glossary of terms used for the description of tooth enamel is included there. It would be fun to see you in Jena in 2001, or earlier at an other place. - Best regards from Bonn, which will not be abandoned when our Federal Government has moved to Berlin this summer. Our university was here much earlier and it will stay in Bonn as some of the most important scientific organizations like Alexander-von-Humboldt-Foundation (AvH), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and especially the Federal Ministry of Science and Research (BMWF) are located here. Other international organizations will come to Bonn. Yours sincerely Wighart v. Koenigswald P.S. Please distribute this information to all who might be interested in the microstructure of tooth enamel. Prof. Dr. Wighart v. Koenigswald Tel. xx49 (0)228 733104 Return to enamel home page.
