Incidence of renal coccidiosis in lesser snow and Canada geese.
Preliminary studies indicate that the frequency and severity of renal coccidiosis has increased in traditionally used areas of the Cape Churchill peninsula which have high densities of birds. These data are consistent with results from the McConnell River, an area that has likely experienced a trophic cascade and the near collapse of a major breeding colony of snow geese. The frequency and severity of renal coccidiosis in both snow and Canada goose goslings will be examined from collections made around the coast of the Hudson Bay, but particularly where high densities of birds occur.
