June 9 1907 Dear Prof. Osborn: Yesterday I was released from the hospital but have to be careful about walking too much for a few days. Our steamship bookings are as follows: Leave --- Port Said - June 14 Leave --- Naples - June 21 There is a ship leaving Alexandria the 12th for Naples and making very close connection with ships leaving for New York on the 16th - too close I thought to risk it, especially as I remember you said to allow plenty of time for connections as the ships from here were sometimes delayed. We shall now have two full days in Naples with a chance to see Pompeii which I should not like to have missed. I shall have enough money to get through with but in order to have margin in case of accident or delay I am cabling today for an additional 30 pounds. I shall feel more comfortable with a little extra money. Our return passage from Naples will be cheaper than the price on the Cedric and we get a refund. Our boxes are now ready to ship and tomorrow I settle up with the acting Director General and then our work will be about finished. Weather has turned more comfortable the last few days - good collecting weather again. I would make a little effort up in the Makkatain Hills but I fear my ankles would not stand it. I shall see Herr Markgraf again and have a good talk with him. Hoping to see you not long after you receive this. I am, with regard Very sincerely yours Walter Granger |
