Xyphinus gibber Deeleman-Reinhold, 1987: 53, f. 33-39 (Dmf).

            Male (PBI_OON 31878). Total length 2.25. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica domed in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners with slightly sclerotized triangular projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides smooth, thorax without depressions, fovea present, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, with blunt denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae absent; marginal setae light, needle-like. Clypeus margin unmodified, sinuous in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, PME largest, ALE circular, PME oval, PLE circular; posterior eye row recurved from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum wider than long, orange-brown, uniform, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures not touching, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump, anterior margin sclerotized; setae abundant, light, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face with swelling; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed posteriorly, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, much more heavily sclerotized than sternum, transition between labium and sternum strongly sclerotized, appearing as arch; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip with backwards folded ridge, posteromedian part unmodified, much more heavily sclerotized than sternum, posteromedian part strongly sclerotized. With sclerotized lateral hump. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly, anterior part pointing upwards, tip of abdomen almost reaching highest point of carapace; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, elliptical, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube medium, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region with widely oval scutal ridge, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, scutal ridge with few small denticles, needle-like hairs originating from these denticles. Two sharply pointed denticles with needle-like hairs situated above the scutal ridge. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, without color pattern, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half with projecting denticles, projecting denticles small. Dorsal scutum embedding narrow tip of abdomen. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, slightly protuding, small lateral sclerites present. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, almost semicircular, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of needle-like setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus absent. LEGS: yellow, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Metatarsi of leg III and IV with harpoon-like hairs.. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, oval, situated in front of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments pale orange; embolus light, not discernible; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, one to two times as long as trochanter, attaching to patella basally; patella about as long as femur, not enlarged; tibia trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium dark red-brown, completely fused with bulb, no seam visible, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae; bulb brown, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, stout, spherical, bulb brown, strong, with dark ventral plates, divided into distinct sclerotized or membranous lobes, one bifid, one directed upwards, ending pointed on prolateral side.

            Female (PBI_OON 31878). Total length 2.21. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, with angular posterolateral corners. Clypeus straight in front view. Eyes posterior eye row straight from front. Sternum longer than wide. Mouthparts: Chelicerae anterior face unmodified. Labium posterior margin slightly sclerotized. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, femur with two spine-like hairs ventrally, tibia with spine-like hairs prolaterally; trichobothria tibia with three trichobothria. ABDOMEN: anterior part pointing upwards, tip of abdomen almost reaching highest point of carapace. Pedicel scutal ridge with few small denticles, needle-like hairs originating from these denticles. Two sharply pointed denticles with needle-like hairs situated above the scutal ridge. Dorsal scutum covering more than 3/4 of abdomen, more than 1/2 to most of abdomen width, projecting denticles small. Dorsal scutum embedding narrow tip of abdomen. Epigastric scutum strongly protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum not fused to epigastric scutum, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Colulus present. LEGS: metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Metatarsi of leg III and IV with harpoon-like hairs.. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope. GENITALIA: Shape: epigastric region with a strongly sclerotized, protruding, roundish structure with longitudinal band, ending in a triangle. Dark, thin stripe shining through. On either side of the ring-shaped structure is a sclerotized arch visible.
