Xyphinus xelo Deeleman-Reinhold, 1987: 44, f. 8-12 (Dmf).

            Male (PBI_OON 31954). Total length 1.70. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, without any pattern, ovoid in dorsal view, pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with angular posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge with pair of pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface with 1 pair of spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides smooth, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, posterior margin with four lobate, sclerotized extensions, dorsal from the pedicel, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, smooth, with blunt denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae light, needle-like; marginal setae light, needle-like. Clypeus margin unmodified, straight in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, light, needle-like, with two pairs of short, strong setae. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, PME largest, all eyes oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE touching, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME touching. Sternum longer than wide, orange-brown, uniform, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures not touching, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, with posterior hump, anterior margin of sternum sclerotized. Setae in anterior half of sternum slightly enlongated. A pair of sclerotized impressions opposite coxae III. Sickle-shaped structures extending fan-like anteriorly; setae sparse, light, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face with swelling, paler than labium and endites.; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed posteriorly, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization, posterior margin with slightly sclerotized edges; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip with backwards folded ridge, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization, posteromedian part strongly sclerotized. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly. Book lung covers large, elliptical, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube long, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region with paired curved scutal ridges, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, few slightly longer setae dorsal of pedicel. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, without color pattern, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half without projecting denticles. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, long, semicircular, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like, setae quite long. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of needle-like setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: pale orange, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, tibiae with one sligthly stronger and longer hair on the ventral apex. Tibia of leg I with one row of strong, harpoon-like hairs prolaterally, metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Harpoon-like hairs covering the distal part of Metatarsi III and IV. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, oval, situated in front of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments pale orange; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, one to two times as long as trochanter, attaching to patella subbasally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged; tibia with two long and thick hairs prolaterally, trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium pale orange, ovoid in dorsal view, fused with bulb but with clearly defined seam between, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, without distal patch of setae; bulb pale orange, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, stout, spherical, distal part of bulb strongly sclerotized. Several dark apophyses visible. Thin membranous outgrowth dorsally, dark plate ventrally.

            Female (PBI_OON 31954). Total length 1.75. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width, posterior margin with four lobate extensions, dorsal from pedicel. Clypeus setae with two pairs of short, strong setae. Sternum anterior margin of sternum slightly sclerotized. A pair of sclerotized impressions opposite coxae III. Sickle-shaped structures extending fan-like anteriorly. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium pale orange. Chelicerae anterior face unmodified. Labium posterior margin with slightly sclerotized edges. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, femora provided with two spine-like hairs ventrally; trichobothria tibia with three trichobothria. ABDOMEN: Pedicel few slightly longer setae dorsal of pedicel. Epigastric scutum slightly protuding. Postepigastric scutum not fused to epigastric scutum, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Dorsum setae setae quite long. Colulus present. LEGS: patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace, tibiae with one sligthly stronger and longer hair on the ventral apex. Tibia of leg I with one row of strong, harpoon-like hairs prolaterally, metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Harpoon-like hairs covering the distal part of Metatarsi III and IV. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope. GENITALIA: Shape: epigastric furrow very narrow. Dark, triangle-shaped structure visible posteriorly of the furrow. This sclerotized, rather short structure is surrounded by slecrotized half circle and lined with numerous needle-like hairs. Anterior margin of postepigastric scutum thickened.
