Xyphinus lemniscatus Deeleman-Reinhold, 1987: 49, f. 29-32 (Dmf).

            Male (PBI_OON 31940). Total length 2.50. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica domed in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with angular posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners with slightly sclerotized triangular projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides smooth, thorax without depressions, fovea present, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, with blunt denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae light, needle-like; marginal setae light, needle-like. Clypeus margin slightly rebordered, sinuous in front view, sloping forward in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent, with two pairs of short, strong setae; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, PME largest, ALE circular, PME oval, PLE circular; posterior eye row recurved from above, straight from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum as long as wide, orange-brown, uniform, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures not touching, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump, anterior margin of sternum strongly sclerotized; setae sparse, light, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae widely divergent, anterior face with swelling, anterior surface covered with few granules; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed posteriorly, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, much more heavily sclerotized than sternum; with 1 or 2 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip with backwards folded ridge, posteromedian part unmodified, much more heavily sclerotized than sternum, posteromedian part strongly sclerotized. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube long, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region with straight scutal ridge, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, few pustules with long hairs in scuto pedicel region anterior to the scutal ridge. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, without color pattern, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface reticulate, sides punctate, anterior half without projecting denticles. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, long, semicircular, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of long setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: pale orange, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, tibiae with one sligthly stronger and longer hair on the ventral apex, metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Harpoon-like hairs covering the distal part of Metatarsi III and IV, tarsi harpoon-like hairs on tarsi III and IV. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, circular, situated at level of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments pale orange; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, one to two times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella subbasally; patella about as long as femur, not enlarged, with many granules on prolateral surface (stridulatory function?); tibia with many granules on prolateral surface (stridulatory function?) Three slightly longer hairs in the prolateral, distal half, trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium orange-brown, ovoid in dorsal view, fused with bulb but with clearly defined seam between, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae; bulb dark red-brown, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, stout, spherical, ventral with a slerotized, knoblike apophysis and one memabranous outgrowth, twisted at its base. Bulb extended into a dark, thin and long rod, which is longer than the tibia and flexed at its base, directed upwards.

            Female (PBI_OON 12367). Total length 2.34. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view, variation: blunt denticles more pronounced, almost sharply pointed, with a pair of small pustules above the fovea. Clypeus straight in front view, vertical in lateral view, with two pairs of short, strong setae. Eyes posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front. Sternum longer than wide. Mouthparts: Chelicerae slightly divergent. Labium with 3-5 setae on anterior margin. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part slightly sclerotized. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, femora with two spinelike hairs ventrally. Tibiae with few slightly longer hairs prolaterally; trichobothria tibiae with three trichobothria. ABDOMEN: Pedicel scuto-pedicel region with paired curved scutal ridges, few pustules with long hairs in scuto pedicel region anterior to the scutal ridge. Epigastric scutum strongly protruding. Postepigastric scutum not fused to epigastric scutum. Colulus present. LEGS: tibiae with one sligthly stronger and longer hair on the ventral apex, metatarsi spur on dorsal apex. Harpoon-like hairs covering the distal part of Metatarsi III and IV, tarsi harpoon-like hairs on tarsi III and IV. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope. GENITALIA: Shape: epigastric furrow narrow. Dark sclerotized, triangle-shaped, strongly protruding structure visible. Sclerotized half-moon situated posterior of the triangle. Elongated knob visible in the middle of the triangle.
