Antoonops nebula       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON 9055). Total length 1.93. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace brown, without any pattern, ovoid in dorsal view, pars cephalica domed in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners with strongly sclerotized, triangular extension, posterolateral surface without spikes, sides scaly, thorax without depressions, carapace dark brown, completely covered by microsculpture, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae short setae on carapace. Clypeus high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present. Eyes six, eyes small. PLE well-separated from PME and ALE, all subequal, ALE oval, PME circular, PLE oval; posterior eye row procurved from both above and front; ALE separated by more than their diameter, PME separated by less than their radius. Sternum longer than wide, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, surface smooth, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner with strongly sclerotized triangle in male, lateral margin with infra-coxal grooves and anterior pores, distance between coxae approximately equal, without posterior hump, color: yellow; setae abundant, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae anterior face unmodified, one small cheliceral tooth on promargin; promargin with one tooth; fangs without tooth-like projections, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae sparse setae on anterior surface of paturon; on posterior surface of paturon a vertical row of five long, medially projecting hairs and a group of small spines located close to outer margin. Promargin flanked by double row of modified hairs running toward fang base. Inner row consisting of four hairs; hair shafts with two rows of small cuticular teeth. Outer row consisting of four flattened, peculiarly shaped hairs. A long-stalked, medially directed plumose hair originating between double row and fang base. Proximal to double row a modified hair flanked by a spiniform hair. Proximal to these a single modified hair. Inner surface of each chelicera giving rise to long, bent hair. Fang base flanked posteriorly by three hairs, innermost one plumose; paturon promargin with row of flattened setae. Labium fused to sternum, anterior margin anteriorly projecting at middle, much more heavily sclerotized than sternum, labium much wider than long; with setae. Endites much more heavily sclerotized than sternum, endites large, dark red to black, strongly modified. Two ventrally projecting processes originating near inner margin of each endite; anterior one largest, its distal surface striking, appearing grooved; posterior one anteroposteriorly flattened, contacting posterior surface of grooved process, distally giving rise to three thick, curved setae directed medially or posteromedially. Inner margin of each endite forming hollow hook pointing backward. Hooks not distinctly protruding above grooved process. ABDOMEN: constricted in middle, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified, color: dark orange to red. Posterior spiracles not connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, pedicel tube without small, dorsolateral triangular extensions. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, anterior half without projecting denticles, color: dark brown to orange, without transverse white band. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, ventral scutum orange-brown. Sperm pore elliptical, with row of setae anterior to it. A rather short lateral apodeme visible through integument on either side of sperm pore. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring, spinneret scutum an incomplete ring with fringe of needle-like setae. Anal scutum present. Spinneret scutum with fringe of needle-like setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus present, small, sclerotized colulus sporting two hairs. Spinnerets: ALS: aLS two-segmented, with one major ampullate gland spigot and three piriform gland spigots, the anterior one clearly separated from the two posterior ones; PMS: pMS single-segmented, digitiform, with only one spigot; PLS: pLS two-segmented, with three spigots. LEGS: femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, tibia I unmodified, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, coxae leg formula 4123. Legs white with parts of some segments dark green, giving legs banded appearance. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with SEM; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one; aperture internal texture grate-like, hood covered by numerous low, closely spaced ridges, each leg with four dorsal trichobothria: one on proximal tibia, two on distal tibia, one on distal metatarsus. Articulating membrane ridged. No variation in bothrium structure among legs or among positions on a given leg. Tarsal organ tarsal organ similar on all legs, exposed. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, situated at level of posterior spiracles; furrow without setae. Palp not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical; embolus prolateral excavation absent, bulbus with distal embolus and conductor. Embolus tubular but tip flattened, opening to outside via broad slit. Tip often bent at almost 90° angle. A small projection present near embolar tip. Conductor slender, usually broader at base; situated approximately prolaterally of embolus; trochanter unmodified; femur two or more times as long as trochanter, attaching to patella basally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia tibia as long as patella, trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium fused with bulb but with clearly defined seam between, extending beyond distal tip of bulb, with distal patch of setae, tarsal organ tarsal organ situated medially on cymbium; structure as on legs; bulb shorter than cymbium.

            Female (PBI_OON 9056). Total length 1.80. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, carapace dark brown, completely covered by microsculpture; non-marginal pars cephalica setae short setae on carapace. Eyes eyes small. PLE well-separated from PME and ALE. Sternum color: orange-yellow. Mouthparts: Chelicerae one small cheliceral tooth on promargin; setae sparse setae on anterior surface of paturon; on posterior surface of paturon a vertical row of five long, medially projecting hairs and a group of small spines located close to outer margin. Promargin flanked by double row of modified hairs running toward fang base. Inner row consisting of four hairs; hair shafts with two rows of small cuticular teeth. Outer row consisting of four flattened, peculiarly shaped hairs. A long-stalked, medially directed plumose hair originating between double row and fang base. Proximal to double row a modified hair flanked by a spiniform hair. Proximal to these a single modified hair. Inner surface of each chelicera giving rise to long, bent hair. Fang base flanked posteriorly by three hairs, innermost one plumose. Labium labium wider than long, anterior margin concave. Endites serrula present in single row, anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified, endites longer than wide, converging, frontal tips almost touching. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges, color: greenish; trichobothria tibia with three dorsal trichobothria; structure as on legs; tarsal organ structure as on legs. ABDOMEN: abdomen with posterior dorsal part slightly raised. Book lung covers color: dark orange to red. Pedicel pedicel tube without small, dorsolateral triangular extensions. Dorsal scutum color: grey to yellow, without transverse white band. Epigastric scutum eS orange-yellow. Postepigastric scutum covering about 1/2 of abdominal length, not fused to epigastric scutum, pES orange-yellow. Rather short lateral apodemes visible through integument. Spinneret scutum spinneret scutum an incomplete ring with fringe of needle-like setae. Anal scutum present. Colulus small, sclerotized colulus sporting two hairs. Spinnerets: ALS: aLS two-segmented, with one major ampullate gland spigot and three piriform gland spigots, the anterior one clearly separated from the two posterior ones; PMS: pMS single-segmented, with four spigots; PLS: pLS two-segmented, with six spigots. LEGS: coxae leg formula 4123. Legs white with parts of some segments dark green, giving legs banded appearance. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with SEM; each leg with four dorsal trichobothria: one on proximal tibia, two on distal tibia, one on distal metatarsus. Articulating membrane ridged. No variation in bothrium structure among legs or among positions on a given leg. Tarsal organ tarsal organ similar on all legs, exposed.
