Aposphragisma brunomanseri       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON00015245). Total length 1.9. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace dark red-brown, without any pattern, ovoid in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface with 2 pairs of spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides strongly reticulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, surface structure (lateral and posterior parts): rather reticulated on ventral half, more striated on dorsal half; carapace margin: sluice restricted to posterior margin, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, with sharply pointed denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present in u-shaped row, setae arranged in a long u-shaped row reaching posterior edge of pars cephalica; each setae originating from the middle of a rather large pit with partly swollen edges; posterior edge with a pair of strongly modified, spike-like hair bases; non-marginal pars thoracica setae absent; marginal setae light, needle-like, denticles at carapace margin represent modified hair bases, setae originating from anterior base of denticles, pointing anteriorly; posterolateral edges of carapace margin with strongly modified hair bases, forming a second pair of spikes. Clypeus sinuous in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, ALE largest, all eyes oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum longer than wide, dark red-brown, uniform, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface coarsely reticulate, without pits, microsculpture everywhere but middle, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin with continuous transverse groove, posterior margin extending posteriorly beyond anterior edges of coxae IV as single extension, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump, sternum microsculptures lobed; ornamentation restricted to a broad oval band, leaving surface of middlestrip and sternum margin smooth; single setae originating from sternum surface or from middle of microsculptures, smooth middlestrip without setae; radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III and III-IV only very weakly developed, rather appearing as indentions of sternum margin; sternum posterior margin protruding as single extension, posteriorly with a single knob-like extension attached to it; pleura smooth with a pair of rather large round pits between carapace margin and coxae I, II and III respectively; setae abundant, light, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium dark red-brown. Chelicerae straight, posterior margin of inner surface proximally modified to a ridge (with grooved surface), covering about 2/3 of margin-length, distally ending in a rounded projection; promargin with row of flattened setae in combination with plumose setae; distal end of anterior face of paturon with pointed toothlike projection (outgrowth of paturon promargin), pointing inwards; without teeth on both promargin and retromargin; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed posteriorly, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered, anterior face of cheliceraes with few, rather evenly scattered setae; paturon distal region unmodified, promargin with row of flattened setae, inner margin unmodified. Labium triangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin deeply incised, same as sternum in sclerotization; subdistal portion with unmodified setae, ventral surface with 5 needle-like setae: two distal setae (one on each side of labium incision) and a transverse line of 3. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization, outer margin subdistally with a pair of long setae with tips curved inwards. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, elliptical, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified, darker and slightly more brownish in colour than rest of scutum, elongated elliptical, rather dumbbell-shaped, about 5-6x longer than wide. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region with widely oval scutal ridge, scutum not extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, dorsal part of epigastric scutum with subterminal ridge. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, dark red-brown, without color pattern, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half without projecting denticles, surface smooth, but bases of setae appearing pitlike, giving a punctate impression. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, dark red-brown, long, semicircular, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like, very long. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of long setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus present, small sclerite with two needlelike setae. Spinnerets: ALS: largest and longest, intersection circular; PMS: smallest and shortest, intersection circular; PLS: intersection circular. LEGS: orange-brown, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent , metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, femora femur IV sligthly longer than Femora I-III; in dorsal view: Femur IV recurved, Femora I-II procurved, Femur III almost straight, tibiae special hairs on ventral apex of tibia III & IV thin, plumose, distally flattened, with fringed lateral margins and spatulate tips, metatarsi special hairs on ventral apex of metatarsi III & IV short, dagger-like, with finely serrated ridges on surface and coarsely serrated lateral margins; dorsal apex of metatarsi I-IV with small, shieldlike appendage. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with SEM; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one; base longitudinally narrowed, aperture internal texture grate-like, hood covered by numerous low, closely spaced ridges. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, oval, situated between anterior and posterior spiracles, rebordered; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments pale orange; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent; trochanter unmodified; femur normal size, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium pale orange, ovoid in dorsal view, not fused with bulb, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, with distal patch of setae; bulb pale orange, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, stout, tapering apically, distal part bulb complex "gamasomorphic"; anterodorsal with small conical extension; Bulbus distally with two appendages, the more dorsal embolus and a more ventral second appendage ('conductor'): embolus dark, lamellar, about a as long as bulbus; conductor tapering towards rounded tip, about as long as embolus; embolus-conductor-complex mesially bent in dorsal view, fitting into the continuous transverse groove at anterior margin of sternum. Spermophor easily visible using a compound microscope, spermophor-opening lying on retrolateral apex of embolus.

CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace surface structure (lateral and posterior parts): rather reticulated on ventral half, more striated on dorsal half; carapace margin: sluice restricted to posterior margin; non-marginal pars cephalica setae setae arranged in a long u-shaped row reaching posterior edge of pars cephalica; each setae originating from the middle of a rather large pit with partly swollen edges; posterior edge with a pair of strongly modified, spike-like hair bases; marginal setae denticles at carapace margin represent modified hair bases, setae originating from anterior base of denticles, pointing anteriorly; posterolateral edges of carapace margin with strongly modified hair bases, forming a second pair of spikes. ABDOMEN: Book lung covers darker and slightly more brownish in colour than rest of scutum, elongated elliptical, rather dumbbell-shaped, about 5-6x longer than wide. Pedicel dorsal part of epigastric scutum with subterminal ridge. Dorsal scutum surface smooth, but bases of setae appearing pitlike, giving a punctate impression. Epigastric scutum without lateral joints, posterolateral part with single, curved, u-shaped ridge. Postepigastric scutum almost semicircular, not fused to epigastric scutum. Dorsum setae very long. LEGS: pale orange; tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex present, femora femur IV sligthly longer than Femora I-III; in dorsal view: Femur IV recurved, Femora I-II procurved, Femur III almost straight, tibiae special hairs on ventral apex of tibia III & IV thin, plumose, distally flattened, with fringed lateral margins and spatulate tips, metatarsi special hairs on ventral apex of metatarsi III & IV short, dagger-like, with finely serrated ridges on surface and coarsely serrated lateral margins; dorsal apex of metatarsi I-IV with small, shieldlike appendage. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope. GENITALIA: Dorsal view: thoma et al. (2014): "Dorsal view (Figs. 12F–G): receptaculum (re) triangular shaped with rounded posterior edge, laterally framed by short almost rectangular sclerites (apodemes; lap) and containing a triangular sac-like structure (sa); globular appendix (gap) lying dorsally of receptaculum short, only about 1/4 of receptaculum length; lateral and median part of receptaculum dorsally covered with papillae (pap); a transverse sclerite (tsc) lies anteriorly to the receptaculum and bears medially a nail-like structure (na) (the latter being superimposed by globular appendixand therefore hardly visible on the figures).".
