Ponsoonops tacana       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON_0049417). Total length 1.53. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica finely reticulate, sides finely reticulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin undulate, rebordered, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae needle-like; marginal setae needle-like. Clypeus margin slightly rebordered, curved downwards in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, eyes moderately reduced, all subequal, all eyes oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching for less than half their length, PLE-PME separated by PME radius to PME diameter. Sternum longer than wide, orange-brown, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, furrow smooth, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump; setae sparse, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium pale orange. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face unmodified; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with pairs of enlarged setae, distal region abruptly narrowed, posterior surface unmodified, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, same as sternum in sclerotization, endites posteromedian part with elongated lamelliform protrusion. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions yellow-reddish ground color, indistinct dark purple net-like pattern, cardiac mark pale. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles not connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum weakly sclerotized, orange-brown, without color pattern, covering 1/2 to 3/4 of abdomen, between 1/4 and 1/2 abdomen width, fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half without projecting denticles, narrow rectangular. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, orange-brown, short, almost rectangular, covering about 1/2 of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring, divided into 2 platelets. Dorsum setae present, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, needle-like. Spinneret scutum without fringe of setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus present, small plate with 2 setae. Spinnerets: ALS: not examined; PMS: not examined; PLS: not examined. LEGS: pale orange, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent , metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, tibiae emerit's glands not examined, metatarsi metatarsi I and II distoventrally with patch of short setae, tarsi pairs of special setae with distinct flattened clawlike apexes present on tarsi III, IV. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-1; II p0-0-1; tibiae: I v4-2-2; II v4-2-1p; metatarsi: I p1-0-0; v2-2-2; II v2-2-2. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore large, oval, situated at level of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments pale orange; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent, flat tube-shaped, moderately curved prolaterad, longitudinally ribbed, irregularly shaped and partly ragged embolus tip; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia elongated (compared to other species of the group), trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium pale orange, narrow in dorsal view, not fused with bulb, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae, cymbial cone not examined, tarsal organ with 2 sensilla; bulb yellow, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, stout, spherical, distal part conductor originates at middel of embolus, very broad lamelliform elongated with ragged distal end (some parts broken off?), longer than embolus.
