Varioonops grancho       Get publication



            Female (PBI_OON 1692). Total length 1.91. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace dark red-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica granulate, sides granulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, indistinct darkened radial stripes present, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin undulate, rebordered, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae needle-like; marginal setae needle-like. Clypeus margin strongly rebordered, curved downwards in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, all subequal, ALE oval, PME squared, PLE oval; posterior eye row recurved from above, straight from front; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, ALE-PLE touching, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by PME radius to PME diameter. Sternum longer than wide, pale orange, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, furrow smooth, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, without pits, microsculpture medially and in furrows, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump, sternum surface evenly and coarsely granulated; lateral margin grooves not examined; setae sparse, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face unmodified; fangs directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with pairs of enlarged setae, distal region abruptly narrowed, posterior surface unmodified, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin not indented at middle; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions dark purple-brown ground color with wide dark purple netlike pattern and indistinct lateral stripes, cardiac mark narrow pale. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified, posterior spiracles connected by posterior rim of postepigastric scutum. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum not extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum absent. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent, without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, pale orange, short, only around epigastric furrow, not fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring, divided into two plates. Dorsum setae present, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, needle-like. Spinneret scutum without fringe of setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Colulus present, small plate with two setae. Spinnerets: ALS: not examined; PMS: not examined; PLS: not examined. LEGS: pale orange, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, tibiae emerit's glands not examined. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-1; II p0-0-1; tibiae: I p1-1-0; v4-2-2; II p0-1-0; v4-2-2; metatarsi: I, II p1-0-0; v2-2-2. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Ventral view: epigastric region inconspicuous, anterior sclerite and plate moderately visible through the epigastric scutum. Dorsal view: large plate with lateral extensions, median protruding and covering anterior genitalic process, protruding part wider than long, anterior genitalic process short and broad stalked bulbous, moderately longer than posterior genitalic process (receptaculum), originating from a small plate; posterior genitalic process elongated pocked-like, weakly sclerotized.
