Pseudodysderina utinga       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON 38073). Total length 1.80. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners with strongly sclerotized, triangular extension, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica finely reticulate, sides granulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae light, needle-like; marginal setae light, needle-like. Clypeus margin strongly rebordered, sinuous in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection present; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum fused to clypeus. Eyes six, well developed, ALE largest, ALE oval, PME squared, PLE oval; posterior eye row recurved from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by less than their radius, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum wider than long, orange-brown, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, furrow smooth, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin with continuous transverse groove, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, lateral margin with infra-coxal grooves and anterior and posterior openings, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins with bridges to coxae, with posterior hump, anterior margin excavated around extended base of labium; three transverse ridges connected by longitudinal ridge at midline; lateral and posterior margins with tuberculate setal bases; setae sparse, light, needle-like, densest laterally, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face with swelling; promargin with one tooth, retromargin without teeth; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae dark, needle-like, densest medially; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified, posterior surface unmodified, promargin with row of flattened setae, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium triangular, not fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization, with dorsoventrally flat posterior extension; with 6 or more setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, serrula absent, same as sternum in sclerotization, each with two deep excavations, one medially along sides of labium, one laterally along base of palpal trochanter. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified, groove extending beyond posterior spiracles nearly to edge of postepigastric scutum; anterior spiracles also connected by groove. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube medium, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, without color pattern, covering full length of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half without projecting denticles. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, orange-brown, long, almost rectangular, covering nearly full length of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of long setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus present. LEGS: orange-brown, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-0-2; r1-1-1; II p0-0-2; r1-1-0; tibiae: I, II v4-4-2; metatarsi: I v2-1p-2; II v2-0-2. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, narrow, slit-like, situated between anterior and posterior spiracles, rebordered; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments yellow; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent, embolus relatively short, bent only near tip, closely paralleling conductor; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur enlarged, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia trichobothria not examined; cymbium yellow, ovoid in dorsal view, completely fused with bulb, no seam visible, extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae; bulb yellow, shorter than cymbium, slender, elongated.

            Female (PBI_OON 38065). Total length 2.15. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Chilum fused to clypeus. Sternum anterior margin excavated around extended base of labium; three transverse ridges connected by anastomosing ridges near midline; lateral and posterior margins with tuberculate setal bases. Labium with dorsoventrally flat posterior extension; most lateral seta on each side enlarged. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges. ABDOMEN: Book lung covers groove extending beyond posterior spiracles about halfway to edge of postepigastric scutum; anterior spiracles also connected by groove. Dorsal scutum covering more than 3/4 of abdomen, more than 1/2 to most of abdomen width. Epigastric scutum without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum almost semicircular, covering about 3/4 of abdominal length. LEGS: Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I, II p0-0-2; r1-1-1; tibiae: I v4-4-2; II v4-4-1p; metatarsi: I v2-2-2; II v3-0-2. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Ventral view: genital atrium semicircular, anterior genitalic process narrow.
