Ischnothyreus barus       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON 15318). Total length 1.25. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pale orange, with dark brown egg-shaped patches behind eyes, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica strongly reticulate, sides strongly reticulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, reticulation of the surface covering almost whole carapace. Only the most upper part of the carapace is smooth.., without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, smooth, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae light, needle-like; marginal setae absent. Clypeus margin unmodified, straight in front view, vertical in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, ALE, PLE largest than PME, ALE circular, PME oval, PLE oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by less than their radius, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME touching. Sternum longer than wide, pale orange, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump; setae sparse, light, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium yellow. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face unmodified, second prominent process at base of fang with brush-like tip on retromargin; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, with prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified, inner margin with medial denticles. Labium rectangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip with one strong, tooth-like projection, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Posterior spiracles not connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, unmodified, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent. Dorsal scutum weakly sclerotized, pale orange, without color pattern, covering more than 3/4 of abdomen, more than 1/2 to most of abdomen width, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface striated, sides striated, anterior half without projecting denticles, striation of dorsal scutum very fine, almost not visible. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent, anterior margin of sperm pore with a fringe of needle-like setae. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, pale orange, long, narrow rectangle, covering about 3/4 of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum absent. Supra-anal scutum absent. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum without fringe of setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: pale orange, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-1; II p0-1-0; tibiae: I, II p2-1-1; r2-1-1; metatarsi: I, II p1-1-0; r1-1-0. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore large, circular, situated in front of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments dark red-brown; embolus light; trochanter normal size, with ventral projection; femur normal size, one to two times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally; patella about as long as femur, not enlarged; tibia trichobothria with 3 trichobothria; cymbium dark red-brown, ovoid in dorsal view, fused with bulb but with clearly defined seam between, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, without distal patch of setae; bulb dark red-brown, more than 2 times as long as cymbium, stout, tapering apically, middle part with ventral protuberance, lobe on bending side, distal part with several short, beak-like apophyses and membranous outgrowth, embolus not discernible, tip of bulb ribbed prolaterally.

            Female (PBI_OON 15318). Total length 1.33. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace without any pattern, reticulation of the surface covering almost whole carapace. Only the most upper part of the carapace is smooth.; marginal setae light, needle-like. Clypeus curved downwards in front view, low, ALE separated from edge of carapace by less than their radius. Eyes posterior eye row procurved from above. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium pale orange. Labium with 1 or 2 setae on anterior margin. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines present, formula: femur v1-1-1; tarsus unmodified; trichobothria tibia with three trichobothria. ABDOMEN: Dorsal scutum covering 1/2 to 3/4 of abdomen, striation of dorsal scutum very fine. Postepigastric scutum widely hexagonal, covering about 1/3 of the abdominal length, not fused to epigastric scutum, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets present. LEGS: Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-1; r0-1-1; II p0-1-0; tibiae: I, II p2-1-1; r2-1-1; metatarsi: I, II p1-1-0; r1-1-0. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with Compound microscope. GENITALIA: Shape: the posterior margin of the epigastric scutum is lined with numerous needle-like setae. The postepigastric scutum is narrow, its anterior margin is slightly thickened. In the middle of the postepigastric scutum is a dark v-shaped structure visible. Underneath is a dark, winding tube running backwards.
