Prethopalpus schwendingeri       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON 16192). Total length 1.34. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pale orange, without any pattern, ovoid in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides granulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present in u-shaped row; non-marginal pars thoracica setae light, needle-like; marginal setae absent. Clypeus margin slightly rebordered, curved downwards in front view, sloping forward in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, light, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, eyes well developed nearly same size, ALE largest, ALE circular, PME oval, PLE circular; posterior eye row straight from both above and front; ALE separated by less than their radius, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME touching. Sternum longer than wide, pale orange, uniform, fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface finely reticulate, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, lateral margin without infra-coxal grooves, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump; setae sparse, dark, needle-like, densest laterally, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium pale orange. Chelicerae straight, anterior face unmodified; without teeth on both promargin and retromargin; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, densest medially; paturon distal region unmodified, posterior surface unmodified, promargin unmodified, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium triangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 1 or 2 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, serrula present in single row, anteromedian tip with one strong, tooth-like projection, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization, endites twice as long as wide, tooth-like projection tiny.. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, ribbed, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent, no structure near pedicel. Dorsal scutum weakly sclerotized, pale orange, without color pattern, covering more than 3/4 of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, not fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface punctate, sides punctate, anterior half without projecting denticles, smooth but setae originate from small pits = punctate. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, pale orange, long, semicircular, covering about 3/4 of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of stout setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: yellow, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore small, oval, situated at level of anterior spiracles, unmodified; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments yellow; embolus light, prolateral excavation absent; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella subbasally; patella about as long as femur, enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia tibia tiny about 1/5 of patella length, trichobothria not examined; cymbium yellow, narrow in dorsal view, not fused with bulb, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, covered with plumose setae, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae, oval about 2/4 of bulb length; bulb yellow, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, slender, tapering apically, bulb oval pear-shaped with deep distal groove.

            Female (PBI_OON 12426). Total length 1.45. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Eyes aLE:0.044; PME:0.040; PLE:0.029, PME squared; posterior eye row recurved from above; ALE separated by their radius to diameter, PME touching for less than half their length. Endites anteromedian tip unmodified, endites twice as long as wide.. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges. ABDOMEN: Pedicel no structure near pedicel. Dorsal scutum smooth but setae originate from small pits.. Epigastric scutum without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum not fused to epigastric scutum. LEGS: patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Dorsal view: epigastric area with broadly oval epicynal opening, broadly oval copulatory duct and t-shaped anterior sclerite with anterorly directed lateral tips..
