Malagiella valterova       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON_03461). Total length 1.55. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace dark red-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica strongly reticulate, sides strongly reticulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin undulate, rebordered, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae light, needle-like, present in u-shaped row; non-marginal pars thoracica setae absent; marginal setae absent. Clypeus margin unmodified, curved downwards in front view, sloping forward in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent, clypeus height is subgroup eye group length.; setae present, light, needle-like. Eyes six, well developed, ALE, PLE largest than PME, ALE oval, PME squared, PLE oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE touching, ALE-PLE touching, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME touching. Sternum longer than wide, red-brown, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity present, occupying anterior half of sternum, with radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, furrow smooth, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture only in furrows, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin with continuous transverse groove, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner with strongly sclerotized triangle in male, lateral margin with infra-coxal grooves and anterior and posterior openings, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump, male sternum with anterior patch of strong stiff bristles.; setae abundant, light, needle-like, densest medially, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium orange-brown. Chelicerae slightly divergent, anterior face unmodified; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae dark, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon distal region unmodified, promargin with row of flattened setae, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium triangular, not fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 6 or more setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally excavated, serrula present in single row, anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles not connected by groove. Pedicel tube medium, unmodified, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum strongly sclerotized, red-brown, without color pattern, covering more than 3/4 of abdomen, no soft tissue visible from above, fused to epigastric scutum, middle surface smooth, sides smooth, anterior half without projecting denticles. Epigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum strongly sclerotized, red-brown, long, semicircular, covering about 3/4 of abdominal length, fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, light, needle-like. Epigastric area frontal setae thickened, light, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, light, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of needle-like setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Interscutal membrane with setae. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: red-brown, without color pattern; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I longer than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-0; tibiae: I, II v4-4-0; metatarsi: I, II v2-2-0. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore large, oval, situated between anterior and posterior spiracles, rebordered; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments red-brown; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent; trochanter normal size; femur normal size, one to two times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella medially; patella longer than femur, much larger than femur, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified; tibia trichobothria not examined; cymbium orange-brown, ovoid in dorsal view, completely fused with bulb, no seam visible, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae; bulb orange-brown, more than 2 times as long as cymbium, stout, tapering apically.

            Female (PBI_OON_03461). Total length 1.70. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less. Clypeus clypeus height is less than eye group length.. Sternum median concavity absent, anterior margin unmodified; setae evenly scattered. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium yellow-brown. Endites distally not excavated. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges. ABDOMEN: Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Dorsal scutum dark red-brown, more than 1/2 to most of abdomen width, not fused to epigastric scutum. Epigastric scutum small lateral sclerites present, without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum orange-brown, widely hexagonal, only around epigastric furrow, not fused to epigastric scutum, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Epigastric area setae uniform. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets present. LEGS: Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): femora: I p0-1-0; tibiae: I, II v4-4-0; metatarsi: I, II v2-2-0. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Ventral view: recaptaculum lender and strongly sinuous..
