Neotrops trapellus       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON 36844). Total length 1.80. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace yellow-brown, without any pattern, broadly oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides smooth, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, smooth, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae absent, seem to be lost (bases remain); non-marginal pars thoracica setae absent; marginal setae dark, needle-like. Clypeus margin unmodified, curved downwards in front view, vertical in lateral view, low, ALE separated from edge of carapace by less than their radius, median projection absent; setae present, dark, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, all subequal, ALE circular, PME oval, PLE circular; posterior eye row recurved from above, straight from front; ALE separated by more than their diameter, ALE-PLE touching, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum as long as wide, yellowish white, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin unmodified, posterior margin not extending posteriorly of coxae IV, anterior corner unmodified, lateral margin without infra-coxal grooves, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles present, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump; setae sparse, dark, needle-like, evenly scattered, originating from surface, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium yellowish white. Chelicerae straight, anterior face unmodified; fangs without tooth-like projections, directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae light, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with pairs of enlarged setae, distal region unmodified, posterior surface unmodified, promargin unmodified, inner margin unmodified. Labium elongated hexagon, not fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 6 or more setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally excavated, serrula present in single row, anteromedian tip with one strong, tooth-like projection, posteromedian part unmodified, same as sternum in sclerotization. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions white, without color pattern. Book lung covers large, round, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, unmodified, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum not extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum absent. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, not surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, white, short, only around epigastric furrow, not fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, without posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum absent. Dorsum setae present, dark, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, dark, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, dark, needle-like. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: yellow-brown, without color pattern; femur IV thickened, much larger than femora I-III, patella plus tibia I near as long as carapace, tibia I unmodified. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): (leg I: femur: d0-0-1; tibia: v2-2-2-2-2-0; v2-2-2-2, leg II: tibia: v2-2-2-2-2-0; v2-2-2-2, leg III: femur: d1; tibia: p1-1, v2ap; metatarsus: p1-1, v2ap, leg IV: femur: d1; tibia: p0-1, v1-2ap; metatarsus: p1-1, v1-2ap. ). Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore not visible; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments yellow-brown; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, setae unmodified; tibia trichobothria not examined; cymbium yellow-brown, ovoid in dorsal view, not fused with bulb, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, without distal patch of setae; bulb white, 1 to 1.5 times as long as cymbium, slender, tapering apically, distal part conductor forwardly directed, razor-shaped, with a small acute, mid-dorsal projection..

            Female (PBI_OON 1696). Total length 2.57. As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace pale orange; non-marginal pars cephalica setae dark, needle-like, present, scattered. Eyes the ocular area is slightly damaged in this specimen.. Sternum pale orange. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium pale orange. Endites distally not excavated, anteromedian tip unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified. ABDOMEN: dorsum soft portions pale white. Epigastric scutum without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum pale orange. LEGS: pale orange. Leg spination (only surfaces bearing spines listed, all spines longer than segment width): (leg I: femur: d0-1-1-1; tibia: v2-2-2-2-2-2-0; metatarsus:v2-2-2-2, leg II: femur: d0-1-1-1; tibia: v2-2-2-2-2-2-0; metatarsus:v2-2-2-2, leg III: femur: d0-1-1-1-1; tibia: p1-1, r1-1, v1-0, d1; metatarsus: p1-1, v0-1-1-2ap, r1-1, leg IV: femur: d0-1-1-1; tibia: d1, p1-1, v0-1-2ap, r1-1 metatarsus: d1-0-1, p1-1, v0-1-2ap, r1ap. ). Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Dorsal view: anterior receptacled elongated, with a widened, rounded distal part (orange in ventral view). At its base, presumably glandular tissue are visible. The opening of the uterus externus are V-shaped, with thickened margins. Basal ridges very thin, gently procurved. Posterodorsal plate surpassing the anterior receptacle, covering it completely in dorsal view..
