Orchestina intricata       Get publication



            Male (PBI_OON_0033870). CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace yellowish white, with net-shaped pattern, elongate oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width, with rounded posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, anterolateral corners without extension or projections, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica smooth, sides smooth, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, carapace surface provided with small platelets in SEM view, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, smooth, without denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae needle-like, present, scattered, absent from lateral side; non-marginal pars thoracica setae needle-like; marginal setae absent. Clypeus margin unmodified, sloping forward in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, aLE-PME touching, PME largest, all eyes circular; posterior eye row recurved from above, straight from front; ALE separated by more than their diameter, ALE-PLE touching, PME touching throughout most of their length, PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum as long as wide, yellowish white, uniform, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface smooth, without pits, microsculpture absent, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin with semicircular depression in the middle half, posterior margin extending posteriorly beyond anterior edges of coxae IV as single extension, anterior corner unmodified, lateral margin without infra-coxal grooves, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins unmodified, without posterior hump; setae abundant, needle-like, evenly scattered, without hair tufts. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium yellow. Chelicerae straight, anterior face unmodified, fang with proximal triangular projection on anterior face; inner margin of posterior face provided with row of small denticles, distal one twice as large as remainder; retromargin with three or more teeth; fangs directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae needle-like, evenly scattered, sparse; paturon inner margin with scattered setae, distal region unmodified, posterior surface unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium fused to sternum, anterior margin anteriorly projecting at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization, narrowed at base, lateral margins smoothly curved, distal part depressed in the centre; with 3-5 setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae, anteriorly with five setae, posteriorly with one seta. Endites distally not excavated, serrula present in single row, posteromedian part unmodified, anterior part divided into two pieces by pronounced groove; lateral part bearing sclerotised, hook shaped projection pointing laterally; mesal part provided with flattened, pectinate setae; posterior part provided with shallow diagonal furrow. ABDOMEN: ovoid, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions pale white, with dark posterior end. Book lung covers small, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Pedicel tube short, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum absent, but abdomen extending anteriad of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent, covered dorsally by a carapace sclerotized triangular extension, pointing backward; with meshed texture;. Dorsal scutum absent. Epigastric scutum absent. Postepigastric scutum absent. Spinneret scutum absent. Dorsum setae present, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, needle-like. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Colulus represented only by setae. LEGS: yellow, without color pattern; femur IV thickened, much larger than femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia I Emeritís glands absent, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, tarsi bearing claws with proximal tooth divided itself in smaller teeth;. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth examined in detail; tarsal proclaws and retroclaws inner face smooth; tarsus I superior claws with seven teeth on lateral surface of proclaw, six teeth on median surface of proclaw, seven teeth on lateral surface of retroclaw, six teeth on median surface of retroclaw. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria examined with SEM; tibia: each with three; metatarsus: each with one; base rounded, aperture internal texture not grate-like, hood covered by numerous low, closely spaced ridges, located distally on metatarsi I, II and III and at 3/5 of seglment length on metatarsus IV. Tarsal organ pear shaped, margin raised above surroundings; with four sensilla visible on tarsi I and II and three sensilla visible on tarsi III and IV; situated distally in front of setae on tarsi I, II and III, isolated in middle of segment on tarsus IV. GENITALIA: Epigastric region with sperm pore not visible; furrow without omega-shaped insertions, without setae. Palp normal size, not strongly sclerotized, right and left palps symmetrical, proximal segments yellow; embolus dark, prolateral excavation absent, embolus complex, with distal translucent spatulate prong; ventrally with well developed triangular tooth at edge of distal, slightly concave platform; trochanter normal size, unmodified; femur normal size, two or more times as long as trochanter, without posteriorly rounded lateral dilation, attaching to patella basally, slightly enlarged; patella shorter than femur, not enlarged, without prolateral row of ridges, setae unmodified, attached to tibia basally; tibia one to two times as wide as femur, trichobothria not examined; cymbium yellow, ovoid in dorsal view, not fused with bulb, not extending beyond distal tip of bulb, plumose setae absent, without stout setae, with distal patch of setae; bulb yellow, more than 2 times as long as cymbium, stout, tapering apically, with retrolateral face strongly protruding.

            Female (PBI_OON_0033873). As in male except as noted. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace carapace surface provided with small platelets in SEM view; non-marginal pars cephalica setae absent from lateral side. Eyes aLE-PME touching. Mouthparts: setae sparse. Labium rounded. Female palp spines absent. ABDOMEN: Pedicel covered dorsally by sclerotized, triangular carapace extension, pointing backward; meshed texture visible in SEM view;. LEGS: tarsi bearing claws with proximal tooth divided itself in smaller teeth;. Leg spines . Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Shape: complex, shape of darker area clavate on each side with circular structure near base, anterior part with two recurved arcs.
