Pescennina fusca       Get publication



            Female (PBI_OON 40899). Total length 1.83. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace orange-brown, elongate oval in dorsal view, pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to 0.49 times its maximum width or less, with angular posterolateral corners, posterolateral edge without pits, posterior margin not bulging below posterior rim, posterolateral surface without spikes, surface of elevated portion of pars cephalica finely reticulate, sides finely reticulate, thorax without depressions, fovea absent, with marginal dark stripe, dark markings behind eyes, submarginally at sides, and along midline of pars thoracica, without radiating rows of pits; lateral margin straight, rebordered, with sharply pointed denticles; plumose setae near posterior margin of pars thoracica absent; non-marginal pars cephalica setae dark, needle-like, present, scattered; non-marginal pars thoracica setae dark, needle-like; marginal setae dark, needle-like. Clypeus margin slightly rebordered, straight in front view, sloping forward in lateral view, high, ALE separated from edge of carapace by their radius or more, median projection absent; setae present, dark, needle-like. Chilum absent. Eyes six, well developed, ALE largest, ALE oval, PME circular, PLE oval; posterior eye row straight from above, procurved from front; ALE separated by more than their diameter, ALE-PLE separated by less than ALE radius, PME separated by less than their radius, PLE-PME separated by more than PME diameter. Sternum longer than wide, orange-brown, not fused to carapace, median concavity absent, without radial furrows between coxae I-II, II-III, III-IV, radial furrow opposite coxae III absent, surface rugose, without pits, microsculpture everywhere but front, sickle-shaped structures absent, anterior margin with interrupted transverse groove, posterior margin extending posteriorly beyond anterior edges of coxae IV as single extension, lateral margin with infra-coxal grooves and anterior and posterior openings, distance between coxae approximately equal, extensions of pre-coxal triangles absent, lateral margins with indented extensions between coxae, without posterior hump, sternum with scattered dark markings, no trace of unsclerotized strip; setae sparse, dark, needle-like, densest laterally, originating from surface. Mouthparts: Chelicerae, endites and labium yellow-brown. Chelicerae straight, anterior face unmodified; without teeth on both promargin and retromargin; fangs directed medially, shape normal, without prominent basal process, tip unmodified; setae dark, needle-like, evenly scattered; paturon inner margin with short inter-digitating setae, distal region abruptly narrowed, posterior surface unmodified, promargin unmodified, inner margin unmodified, laminate groove absent. Labium triangular, fused to sternum, anterior margin indented at middle; with 6 or more setae on anterior margin, subdistal portion with unmodified setae. Endites distally not excavated, serrula present in single row, anteromedian tip unmodified, posteromedian part unmodified. Female palp claws absent; spines absent; tarsus unmodified, patella without prolateral row of ridges. ABDOMEN: cylindrical, without long posterior extension, rounded posteriorly, inter-scutal membrane rows of small sclerotized platelets absent posteriorly; dorsum soft portions dorsum gray, anterior half with seven white spots in rows of two, three, and two. Book lung covers large, ovoid, without setae, anterolateral edge unmodified. Posterior spiracles connected by groove. Pedicel tube short, unmodified, scuto-pedicel region unmodified, scutum not extending far dorsal of pedicel, plumose hairs absent, matted setae on anterior ventral abdomen in pedicel area absent, cuticular outgrowths near pedicel absent. Dorsal scutum absent. Epigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, surrounding pedicel, not protruding, small lateral sclerites absent, without lateral joints. Postepigastric scutum weakly sclerotized, yellow-brown, short, only around epigastric furrow, not fused to epigastric scutum, anterior margin unmodified, with short posteriorly directed lateral apodemes. Spinneret scutum present, incomplete ring. Dorsum setae present, dark, needle-like. Epigastric area setae uniform, dark, needle-like. Postepigastric area setae present, dark, needle-like. Spinneret scutum with fringe of long setae. Dense patch of setae anterior to spinnerets absent. Colulus absent. LEGS: yellow; femur IV not thickened, same size as femora I-III, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace, tibia I unmodified, tibia IV specialized hairs on ventral apex absent, tibia IV ventral scopula absent, metatarsi I and II meso-apical comb absent, metatarsi III and IV weak ventral scopula absent, femora femora I, II with subbasal prolateral darkening and ventral dark stripe, III, IV with prolateral and retrolateral dark stripes everywhere except base, patellae ventral darkenings, tibiae iV with prolateral and retrolateral dark stripes everywhere except base. Leg spines absent. Tarsi I to IV superior claws tooth not examined in detail. Tarsi I to IV without inferior claw. Trichobothria not examined. GENITALIA: Ventral view: anterior ducts with about five coils around dumbbell-shaped transverse bar scarcely separated from anterior margin of posterior receptaculum. Dorsal view: posterior receptaculum large, triangular.
