Torsten is working in the joint Cornell University - American Museum of Natural History Ph.D. program in systematic entomology on a higher-level phylogeny of Asilidae ("robber flies"). His current project include Phylogenetic, revisionary taxonomic, and biodiversity studies involving Asilidae ("robber flies"), Apioceridae ("flower-loving flies"), and Mydidae ("mydas flies") (Insecta: Diptera: Brachycera: Asiloidea) - see details at www.tdvia.de/research.html.
