John Sparks' Field Program

John Sparks has travelled extensively, but the focus of his fieldwork before coming to the American Museum was the freshwaters of Madagascar. Since his arrival at the AMNH, John has continued his freshwater fieldwork in Madagascar (see 2003 Makira Expedition), but he has expanded his field program to include extensive marine work. This marine work began with shallow-water collection Madagascar (see 2003 Masoala Expedition), but it has also included marine collections at various depths in the Caribbean, the eastern Indian Ocean (Thailand and Malaysia), and western Pacific Ocean (Taiwan, Singapore).
