Schaefer's Fieldwork in Venezuela - SAS99
The 1999 expedition
was a joint pilot project between the American Museum of
Natural History and the Museo de Biología, Universidade
Central de Venezuela (MBUCV) in Caracas to examine the
logistic requirements and conduct a preliminary survey
for a more comprehensive study (see SAS01) of the fishes
of the Río Cuao. The Río Cuao is a tributary of the upper
Río Orinoco of Amazonas State, Venezuela. Collections
were made in the lower Cuao, as well as in the adjacent
tributaries of the Río Ventuari in the vicinity of Yutaje
to the East. Approximately 2,100 specimens in 250 lots
were obtained and divided between the AMNH and the MBUCV.
